Busan quickly became one of my favorite cities in South Korea. As the country’s largest coastal city, it has an exciting energy that reminded me of New York City. The streets are alive with people, markets, restaurants, and neighborhoods, each with its own unique character.

What I appreciated most, however, was the balance between the vibrant city and the peaceful coastline. Spending time along the beach, listening to the crashing waves and feeling the ocean breeze, provided a welcome opportunity to slow down and reflect. It was the perfect reminder that even in the midst of a busy city, moments of peace can always be found.

Busan beautifully blends modern city life with the beauty of nature, making it a destination that offers something for everyone. It is a city I will always remember for both its energy and its tranquility.

We were able to visit the Gyeongbok Palace and see the changing the guards.

One of my favorite stops in Seoul was the National Folk Museum of Korea. While many museums focus on kings, battles, and politics, this museum tells the story of everyday people. Through exhibits on family life, traditions, farming, celebrations, and culture, I gained a deeper understanding of what life was like for ordinary Koreans throughout history.

As an educator, I appreciated how the museum connected history to real people and their lived experiences. It was a powerful reminder that culture is preserved not only through monuments and leaders, but through families, communities, and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
This visit helped me see Korea through a different lens and gave me a greater appreciation for the resilience, values, and rich cultural heritage of the Korean people.
